You've neatly summarised the challenges of today, Tanja, and who thought that the internet and social media would have led to this? Probably the solution is to be more like President Trump and outrage everyone but this may not be good for personal survival! Great insights, and I have realised that it is worse than I ever imagined!
Thank you, Reuben β and yes, itβs a jungle out there. Outraging everyone does seem effective, but I suspect the art lies in doing it elegantly enough to still get invited back to dinner.
otherwise, I've begun taking pride in being offensive rather than just being noncommittal about it (mostly since 2011 when the #notallmen bashers and "how dare you not support men dressed as women" folks became prevalent and started jumping on me for making legitimate statements about experience and opinion.)
I think thatβs exactly where humour still earns its keep β it lets us say whatβs true for us without immediately reaching for pitchforks. The worldβs gotten a bit allergic to nuance, so sometimes offence is just another word for honesty.

Hehehe, failed to offend, I'm afraid. Keep trying.
Not even my delayed response? π€
I'm hardly in a position to complain about that - as world's worst subscriber.
well, at least I've never had to worry about #5.
