“ I have never managed to throw books away, it always seemed like an absolute sacrilege.”

I see you’ve never had to lug your library across several oceans. I don’t fear death but I do fear a large room full of book boxes (465 at the last go around).

I hear you, and you obviously rather lug them around than dispose of them…

Oh, I’ve become terribly ruthless. If I don’t think I’ll read a book again it gets exposed to the elements, the way the Romans disposed of unwanted children. Thankfully in my corner of London there are still many readers so the poor orphans get picked up quickly.

My mother read a book of classical fairy stories to me when I was a very young girl. Little Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf was one of my favorites. That story has helped me in my life to remember to discern good from evil. Evil is usually cloked in a manner to snatch you unawares into the darkness of the forest where you can be captured.

I have always loved the classical fairy tales and have read them to my children. I love how they help you keep perspective. Thank you so much for your comment!

The real fairy tales always seemed to have a moral point. I have felt sorry for the children exposed to the Disney versions.

Thank you for your comment. I get where you are coming from and I must admit that I do love some of the older Disney films like The Jungle Book, Aristocats and Bambi very much. Nevertheless if I had the choice I would always fall back on the good old fairy tales.
