German Economics professor Helge Peukert has now called on the climate activist group "Last Generation" to demand more radical changes, such as strict limits or bans on building, driving, travelling, and heating. Radical measures should also be enforced through emergency laws. Unfortunately, it seems that these are the kinds of lunatic extremists that consult our governments.
Peukert sets three goals:
halving energy consumption
reducing material flows by 90 per cent
ending all land use - all within five years.
These goals are not achievable at today's level of production and consumption, he says, even through a complete switch to green electricity. He concludes:
"The eco-modernist dream is over. After decades of procrastination, what is needed immediately is the introduction of emergency legislation."
I want to share the catalogue of what Peukert calls โproposalsโ, that are causing heated debates - to me these proposals sound like the ramblings of an attention-seeking lunatic with a professorship:
1. climate
* Reduce emissions of all greenhouse gases in the EU to net zero by 2035.
* Ban on palm oil and all products produced by deforestation. (but where to put all of the wonderful sustainable wind turbines when there are so many trees in the way?)
* Ban on deforestation. Imperative to plant trees, re-naturalise soils, peatlands and other COโ reservoirs.
* Prohibition of bonfires, barbecues and the burning of crops and garden waste. (since we will not be allowed to eat meat in the future, why would we need to barbecue anyway - although, can you barbecue crickets?)
* Extensive reduction of the military.
2. traffic
* Rationing of private petrol and diesel consumption to 500 litres per person per year. Reduction to zero in five years. (of course, this applies only to the general population, the drone-fixing mob, and not to the super-rich elites. And as we will all be living in the 15-minute cities, we will not be needing cars anyway.)
* Free local and long-distance public transport.
* "Absolute priority" for cycling and rail transport.
* Reduction of many roads and motorways. (making sure people cannot get out of the 15-minute cities.)
* Reduction of freight transport by lorries and ships by 20 per cent a year. (right, who needs food or supplies anywayโฆ)
* Ban on cruise ships.
* Ban on "low-cost" airlines.
* Ban on all flights under 1000 kilometres and over 3000 kilometres. (again, this is for the mob and will not apply to the elites and their private jets.)
* Ban on business class and first class flights.
* Rationing of flights to one return flight per person per year. In five years, only one flight every three years should be allowed. (they are already preaching to the people that they should not travel and stay at home for the holidays.)
* Closure of most airports.
3. social and societal issues
* Introduction of a conditional basic income. It can be earned by working in state "social-ecological jobs". (Klaus Schwab mentioned quite a few times in interviews that there will be people needed to repair the dronesโฆ anyone looking for a new job?)
* Maximum income equal to ten times the minimum wage.
* High taxes on wealth and inheritance ("if necessary, cap on max. permissible wealth"). (here goes everything you ever worked forโฆ)
* COโ tax of five per cent of annual income for each tonne of COโ above a consumption of two tonnes of COโ per person.
* Ban on private health insurance. In public health insurance, the contribution assessment limits shall be abolished. (because it is known to work so well and one is then completely at the mercy of the state.)
* Care and nursing work to be provided only by the state
4. communication/research:ย
* Establishment of an organisation to promote "insight into change and the need for radical action". (sounds enticing - long live the Ministery of Truth)
* Drastic restriction of the freedom of action of IT corporations.
* Special funds for research institutions to implement the emergency programme;
* Orientation of teaching and research towards a "survival science". (survival for whom?)
5. housing:ย
* In principle, prohibition of all new building activities. Necessary new buildings only as zero-emission houses.
* Rationing of energy to an amount per citizen needed to heat 45 square metres of living space to 20 degrees; (who cares what temperature you like, if you are warm or coldโฆ)
* No further sealing of open spaces.
* Heating system replacement also in existing buildings.
* Promotion of even small solar panels, for example on balconies, as well as the construction of solar parks and wind turbines by citizens' cooperatives. (now that is going to look beautiful - especially with all the trees gone to make space for all of this)
* Large household appliances such as washing machines or lawnmowers must comply with energy class A+++ - and have a minimum number of users. (owning a washing machine will be a luxury. You can always go and wash your clothes in a river with a washboard.)
* Limitation of waste from private households to ten per cent of the value before the introduction of the emergency programme. (this should be an easy one as everything will be rationed anyway.)
* Maximum temperature in buildings of 20 degrees, cooling in summer not below 26 degrees. (again, who cares what preferences you have - itโs for the climate after all.)
* Companies, households and buildings must reduce emissions by 12 per cent annually (70 per cent in ten years).
6. work and economy
* A "macroeconomic framework planning" is to determine which consumption is possible "in order to then decide as democratically as possible on the desired mix". (I believe it is clear what โas democratically as possibleโ means)
* These areas of production are to be largely "cut back": Cars, chemicals, fossil energies, wood extraction, fertilisers, metals and the financial sector.
* All jobs should be assessed for their environmental compatibility. Employees are to be retrained.
* Working hours are to be limited to a maximum of 25 hours.
* No taxes should be levied up to an income of 25,000, after which the tax rate should increase linearly.
* VAT to be abolished. The main source of government revenue is a CO2 tax.
* 25 per cent tax on online purchases.
* Ban on fluorinated gases.
* Ban on all disposable products.
* Ban on all "non-essential machinery". Including: Lifts, escalators, bread slicers, and neon signs. There should only be lifts for the disabled," provided electricity comes from renewable energy." (and if it doesnโt, who cares if the disabled can take part in life, go see a doctor etc.)
* Prohibition of advertising displays on streets, shop windows will not be illuminated at night. (we already see thisโฆ)
* Government regulation of product design to maximise durability. (here goes creativity and welcome uniformity)
* Ban on waste exports.
* Manufacturers of complex products such as cars, and mobile phones must take them back after use, dismantle them and remove all raw materials.
* Private ownership of water, land and forests is very heavily restricted and regulated. (you will own nothing and be happy)
Food/Agriculture:ย
* Priority for regionally grown products.
* Extensive import ban on food.
* Access to food via a "point purchase system" to achieve basic supply and equal distribution. (this is a complicated way of saying that food is to be rationed and the point system suggests the implementation of a social credit system - if you are good and compliant you can actually eat.)
* Prohibition of destroying food. Unneeded food is to be given away and/or distributed free of charge. (but only if your social credit is good)
* Prohibition of meat and sausage consumption or rationing to a "low, maximum quota/capita". (say goodbye to healthy nutrition and a balanced diet.)
* Ban on factory farming.
* Reduce agricultural emissions by 12 per cent annually (70 per cent in ten years), to zero in 2035.
* Ban on environmentally harmful fertilisers and pesticides.
* New setting of fish catch quotas independent of demand. Ban on large-scale fishing.
* At least 20 per cent of Germany's land area to become eco-zones, in which there must be no sealed soil, no roads and also no settlements.
Financial sectorย
* Derivatives, options and futures will only be allowed to cover risks in the real economy.
* All lending will be "eco-social".
* Setting a minimum holding period for shares, bonds and currencies of one week.
* Introduction of a financial transaction tax.
* Ending money creation by banks in favour of money creation by the state (full money system).
* Financing of the socio-ecological third labour market via central bank money.
* Limiting the size of banks to a balance sheet total of 100 billion euros
Peukert also writes; "A post-growth economy unburdens and decelerates and requires a new transcendental worldview beyond individual-egoistic consumption, expansion and speed". He sees those involved in the "Last Generation" (Letzte Generation) as "representatives of a future biospheric life economy". These new people would not only fight the destruction of our planet. Their goals could also lead to "a more meaningful, creative, solidary, beautiful and happy life".
I find this absolutely delusional. The โLast Generationโ are bored, privileged people that simply have no purpose in life. All they have done so far is terrorise the people and try to blackmail the government into complying with their absurd demands. I always thought that blackmail was a criminal offence - but what do I know?
In an interview, Peukert addresses the question of whether his demands would not lead to an eco-dictatorship. He counters that there are examples of achieving a focus on one big goal under "halfway democratic conditions". Peukert cites the war economy of the Allies in the Second World War, the Corona measures and also the German emergency laws that led to violent protests in the 1960s. His proposals are "not a logically or factually coherent draft" but a catalogue of individual demands from his point of view as a scientist.
The trouble with all of these ramblings is that they are much too close to becoming reality. Personally, I see that Germany, and probably quite a lot of other countries - most of which are members of the WHO - are actively working towards these proposals and goals. Essentially this means giving up all rights and freedom in exchange for being held like cattle.

This is terrifying Tanja. i looked this guy up and of course most things are in German. it's hard to believe that he is an economics professor. The ideas are crazy but are obviously being taken seriously. There are definitely more of these ideas coming day by day. Thanks for alerting us.
I'd pose the question of why lunatics and psychopaths are the ones in power, but that's too rhetorical.
considering the way many of the holders of power positions inherit or are appointed to those, and most of the rest seem to buy or cheat their way through elections, the question kind of answers itself.
