WHAT FILMS ARE SHOWING US
I have almost daily conversations with a dear friend and when we talk I am often inspired to write about different topics. Of course, we speak a lot about the current situation, the development, and where this all will lead.
I am usually the one that in the end always has an optimistic outlook on everything, holding on to my faith and my belief that good will prevail in the end - whenever that may be. Also stating that we should truly enjoy our life and every single day that we are gifted. In this one particular conversation images and scenes from several films popped into my head and I haven’t been able to shake these images as they almost seem sadly prophetic now.

Dolores Umbridge’s Educational Decrees at Hogwarts look a lot like the patchwork that has become our Constitution as well as the Infection Protection Laws.
And this scene from Harry Potter also shows us what is happening all around us. A few want control over others and over everything, taking away all self-determination and responsibility, not realising that they are not only taking everything away from others. Even when they think they are above it all - which they obviously do - they seem to completely forget that they are leaving a ghastly world for their children and grandchildren, leaving it to them to clean up the mess and face the consequences.

Almost prophetic is also this scene from the 2008 Pixar Film WALL-E (and I know there are uncountable other films we could name) which popped into my head…
It may not be quite as extreme as yet but if you watch some people sitting together, everyone staring at their smartphone instead of paying attention to one another, we are not that far from this reality.
And if you take the rapidly advancing obesity in the population of the western world into account, we are almost there.

And yet there is one thing that all of these films have in common. The happy ending! And yes, I am a hopeless romantic and a sucker for happy endings.
No matter how hopeless a situation seems, no matter how difficult it is, how horrible, in the end, hope, the will to survive, courage, and good prevail against darkness and evil.

Sometimes it takes a little longer and I know that it has to get worse before it gets better but nevertheless, I know with absolute certainty that this time it will be the same. I don't know when it will happen or how long it will take and of course, I hope I live to see it.

👀Impressions
While cleaning out the cellar (do you know the cellar of shame where everything is stuffed into and you can barely get through it anymore?), my son found a huge bag of old photos (some of them very old). It's unbelievable what treasures you can find and what memories come up... Me, 27 years ago in St. Lucia.
