Today’s SPECIAL ISSUE might not be what you expect.
Over the past year I have been writing a lot of critical letters of what I perceive is happening around us and I believe it is high time for a Special Issue that is slightly different!
In mad times it is so easy to focus on the negative and get sucked up into this state of frustration, anger and even fear. Admittedly it happens to me often enough as well and yet I keep trying to focus on the good around me and there is so much of it if we just manage to see it.
It’s a lot like balance sheets. No, I will most certainly not go into the topic of economics, finance or anything even related - I wouldn't go that far out on a limb - I'll leave that to others who know more about it and have actual expertise.
As humans, it seems to be in our nature to linger on the bad instead of focusing on the good. It’s a bit like a balance sheet of life. We mainly focus on what we have on the debit side and neglect all the amazing things we have on the credit side.
It is also somewhat like the glass half full or glass half empty conundrum.
Whatever happened to overflowing glasses?
Don’t get me wrong, seeing the credit side of the balance sheet does not mean you should ignore the debit. Let’s face it, sometimes life doesn’t throw lemons at you to make delicious lemonade but a truckload of manure (give me some credit of finding a nicer way of saying shit and managing to put something on my credit side!). It is absolutely ok to wallow in the manure for a while, but if you do it for too long you will have trouble getting out and the stink of it will eventually stick. When life throws lovely smelling rose petals at you, don’t go out of your way to evade them. Just roll around in those beautiful rose petals as that is a scent you should let stick to you.
I truly believe that people are capable of change - if they deliberately make that choice. I also believe that every change comes with a chance.
When we only see scarcity around us, we miss the abundance that is always there. Sometimes it is in the little things that we take for granted and we simply have to find an eye again to see and appreciate them.
It may take practice, especially with all that is going on but it is worth it. Just take it one day a at a time and check the credit side or your personal life’s balance sheet more often.

📚My Poem of the Day
Is by the amazing Maya Angelou (1928–2014)
When I Think About Myself
When I think about myself, I almost laugh myself to death, My life has been one great big joke, A dance that's walked A song that's spoke, I laugh so hard I almost choke When I think about myself. Sixty years in these folks' world The child I works for calls me girl I say 'Yes ma'am' for working's sake. Too proud to bend Too poor to break, I laugh until my stomach ache, When I think about myself. My folks can make me split my side, I laughed so hard I nearly died, The tales they tell, sound just like lying, They grow the fruit, But eat the rind, I laugh until I start to crying, When I think about my folks.
